Fascinating worlds in dark tourmalines
Special exhibition “Crystal magic”
until January 8th, 2023
Crystals exert a special magic, their form, color and brilliance have always fascinated people. In some cases, however, the beauty of a crystal is only revealed thanks to more modern research methods. The Schörl tourmaline variety, which is common in Austria, is completely black and inconspicuous on the outside. If it is ground into wafer-thin plates and placed under the microscope, you will find wonderful microstructures of impressive precision and surprising color brilliance in the crystals. The exhibition “Crystal Magic – Fascinating Worlds in Dark Tourmalines” curated by chemist Paul Rustemeyer is an aesthetic and unusual expedition into the surprising inner workings of tourmaline crystals.
