From 6 to 9 June 2025, Salzburg becomes a musical mirror of the Serenissima: Under the motto “Sounds of the Serenissima”, the Salzburg Whitsun Festival invites you on a cultural journey through centuries of Venetian music.
Artistic director Cecilia Bartoli curates a world-class program filled with opera, concerts and theatrical surprises.
What awaits you in 2025?
Venice is more than just a city – it’s a myth, a melody, a feeling. The Whitsun Festival captures this magic and brings composers like Antonio Vivaldi, Claudio Monteverdi, and Giuseppe Verdi to Salzburg. The program spans baroque sacred music, modern ballet, and innovative stage productions.

Opera meets myth: Hotel Metamorphosis
A true highlight is the new production Hotel Metamorphosis – a playful operatic pasticcio featuring music by Vivaldi, directed by renowned stage director Barrie Kosky. Cecilia Bartoli takes on the mythological roles of Arachne and Eurydice, alongside acclaimed artists Philippe Jaroussky and Lea Desandre.
Baroque soundscapes & new works
Operatic classics & ballet based on Thomas Mann
On Whitsun Sunday, a concert performance of La Traviata takes center stage – with a dream cast: Nadine Sierra, Piotr Beczala, and Luca Salsi. Dance lovers will enjoy a captivating interpretation of Death in Venice by the Hamburg Ballet, choreographed after Thomas Mann’s novella.
