From March 27 to April 6, Richard Wagner will appear in new splendor on the stages of the Salzburg Festival.
The event kicks off on Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m. with artistic director Nikolaus Bachler presenting an introductory matinee to “Das Rheingold.”
At 6 p.m., the premiere of Das Rheingold will take place, conducted by Kirill Petrenko with Christian Gerhaher as Wotan.
Richard Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” returns to the stage at the Salzburg Festival.
And so the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, with its principal conductor Kirill Petrenko, is also returning to Salzburg to present a new production of “Rheingold.”
This is staged by Kirill Serebrennikov and aims to transport us to a world theater in which new beliefs are formed from images inspired by the folk art of Africa, Asia, and America.
In this way, the mosaic pieces of the past are to be reassembled through Wagner’s music and show us the future that awaits us.
Electric evening at the Felsenreitschule
In keeping with Wagner’s spirit, the play “Ring” is also transferred to a modern context. With music by Anja Schneider and images by Sven Marquardt, they transport visitors to a place where festival tradition and club aesthetics come together.
